MANILA – Senate President Pro Tempore Franklin Drilon sees nothing wrong with Liberal Party (LP) senators voting as a bloc.
“Is it against the democratic rule?” he asked.
The Ilonggo senator was reacting to the statement of Sen. Richard Gordon that the LP should leave the supermajority in the Senate.
“That is practice in this legislative body, and we are exercising our prerogatives as members of the body,” said Drilon.
He said they will remain in coalition “unless the majority decides otherwise.”
Senators belonging to the LP are Drilon, Paolo Benigno “Bam” Aquino IV, Leila de Lima, Risa Hontiveros, Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, and Ralph Recto.
Meanwhile Sen. Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito said he sent Drilon a text message apologizing for a similar remark against LP senators.
“I feel that he got hurt. And in fairness to him when I was in the opposition, he treated me very well and with respect while he was Senate president,” Ejercito told reporters. “Since I offended him, I texted him to apologize.”
