ILOILO City – Power distributor MORE Electric and Power Corporation (MORE Power) is intensifying its campaign against illegal electrical connections and promoting safety measures among households this Fire Prevention Month.
Angel Tan, spokesperson of MORE Power, said the company continues to conduct information and education campaigns in communities to remind residents about electrical safety and prevent fire incidents, many of which are caused by faulty or overloaded electrical systems.
MORE Power’s community relations personnel regularly visit neighborhoods to share safety reminders, with intensified efforts during the summer season when electricity consumption is higher.
Tan stressed that illegal electrical connections remain a major concern because they can lead to overloading and possible fire incidents.
MORE Power had recorded more than 2,000 cases of unauthorized load-side connections between 2020 and 2026, making it one of the most common violations.
Other violations included bypass wires, tampered meters, illegal transfers of meters and service lines, and unregistered meters, bringing the total recorded cases to more than 4,200 during the same period.
Tan said the company continues to coordinate with the city government in addressing the problem and supporting local fire prevention initiatives, including programs led by the Iloilo City Council.
She added that reports from the public help authorities identify and remove illegal connections that pose safety risks to communities.
Aside from enforcement, MORE Power is also reminding consumers to practice electrical safety at home. Among the recommended measures are unplugging appliances when not in use, avoiding improvised extension cords, not covering electrical wires or outlets with cloth that may cause heat buildup, having electrical lines inspected regularly, and consulting licensed electricians for repairs or installations.
Tan also assured that MORE Power personnel undergo regular safety training, including first aid response and fire drills, to ensure they are prepared to respond to emergencies while maintaining safe power distribution in Iloilo City./PN
