Driver killed, backrider hurt as motorcycle plunges into ravine in Aklan

AKLAN — A 47-year-old driver died while his 19-year-old backrider was injured after their motorcycle overshot the road and plunged into a ravine in Barangay Habana, Nabas, Aklan late Sunday night, August 30.

The police identified the fatality as alias “Gor,” a resident of Banga, Aklan. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. His backrider, alias “Kier,” a resident of Ibajay town, sustained multiple body injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.

According to the Nabas Municipal Police Station, the victims were traveling from Barangay Magallanes, Nabas toward Barangay Caticlan in Malay town when the motorcycle overshot a section of the road around 11:20 p.m. and fell off the cliff.

Personnel from the Nabas Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office immediately responded to the scene and rushed both victims to the hospital, where attending physicians declared the driver dead on arrival.

Police noted that both individuals were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident./PN
