Drivers reminded: No overloading, overcharging

Passengers wait for their scheduled bus trips at the Ceres bus terminal in Barangay Buhang, Jaro, Iloilo City. Most of them say they want to spend Holy Week’s Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Black Saturday, and Easter Sunday in their respective hometowns in the provinces of Iloilo, Aklan and Capiz. ILOILO City – Do not overload your public utility vehicles (PUVs).

Do not overcharge your passengers.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) in Western Visayas reminded PUV drivers about these and other traffic rules and regulations as people travel to various destinations for their Lenten break.

It also urged commuters to file complaints should they encounter erring drivers.

“I would appreciate it a lot if you can help us. We lack manpower. Come to my office and complain, or call us,” said Regional Director Richard Osmeña.

LTFRB Region 6’s hotline numbers are 329-4385 and 503-2323

Osmeña said drivers being complained will be summoned and made to explain.

Ako, automatically, I can act on complaints. It won’t take two days. Automatic ipatawag ko na ‘yung driver,” said Osmeña.

Early this week, Osmeña and his men started checking various land transport terminals in line with the “Oplan Biyaheng Ayos: Semana Santa 2018” of the Department of Transportation.

There is no Lenten break for LTFRB personnel, said Osmeña.

Walang leave, walang day-off. This is the period when some drivers and PUV operators would commit violations such as overloading and overcharging. We will make sure these won’t happen,” said Osmeña.

They are also checking the roadworthiness of PUVs, he added.

Overloading and overcharging would cost a driver or PUV operator P5,000 in fine.

Apprehended colorum (franchise-less) vehicles would be penalized with a P50,000 fine.

The “isnabero” or choosy drivers would be made to pay a P5,000 fine./PN
