ILOILO City – A drug pushing suspect was arrested not for peddling shabu but for illegally selling a firearm in Barangay Banica, Roxas City.
The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) caught Mario Tupaz, 55, in an entrapment operation. An operative bought from him a .45 pistol for P15,000.
Tupaz was taken to the Roxas City police station.
Citing intelligence information, CIDG director Senior Superintendent Francisco Esguerra said the suspect was a member of the Aguirre drug group operating in Capiz province and Roxas City.
“But he found another illegal activity, selling homemade guns, due to the police’s relentless campaign against illegal drugs,” said Esguerra.
The suspects’ clients included lawless elements, Esguerra added.
Tupaz was placed under surveillance for over a week prior to yesterday’s entrapment.
He faces a charge for violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act./PN
