ILOILO City – Another high-value target in the antidrug campaign in Iloilo province was caught in Barangay Cagbang, Oton town yesterday.
Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and Oton police station operatives arrested the 30-year-old Ryan Patrick Garcia in a buy-bust operation around 6 a.m.
Garcia, a resident of Barangay Santa Cruz, Arevalo district, is connected to Marque “Boboy” Acap Sr., a suspected Odicta subgroup leader, said Chief Inspector Dennis Pamonag, Oton police chief.
His link to Acap and a pending case (visiting a drug den) in light of the raid of Acap’s house on Sept. 21 last year make Garcia a high-value target, Pamonag said.
Garcia sold two plastic packs of shabu to an undercover officer for P1,000.
“Dugay na ni nga attempt sang tropa naton. Gin-transact, nabaklan sang ulihi, amo na nga kumagat siya,” Pamonag told Panay News.
Seventeen more plastic packs of shabu in a motorcycle compartment and a mobile phone were seized from Garcia.
According to Pamonag, Acap’s daughter is Garcia’s live-in partner.
Detained in the Oton police station lockup cell, Garcia is facing charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
In a radio interview, Garcia’s mother defended him. She said her son and his live-in partner were professional nurses.
“Wala na ni siya ya nagabaligya ang bata ko … galing kay nagtapik kay Boboy amo na ina dayon,” the mother said.
She said she was always supportive of her son and has been warning him against engaging in illegal activities.
“Ang paglaygay ko indi hamak. Siempre palangga niya ang bata ni Boboy. Siempre dira siya mapuli, asawa niya ina mo, kulang na lang kasal,” she said./PN
