Drunk laborer drowns in Antique

ANTIQUE — A 47-year-old laborer was declared dead on arrival at the hospital after drowning in the coastal waters of Barangay Dumrog, Pandan, Antique, on Monday morning, July 6.

The victim was identified only as alias “Victor,” a resident of the said barangay.

Police Senior Master Sergeant Jimmy Gallego, investigator for the Pandan Municipal Police Station, stated in a DYRP Life Radio Iloilo interview that the victim was discovered floating in the sea by his cousin, who immediately called for emergency assistance.

Police investigation revealed that Victor was under the influence of alcohol when he went for a swim. Authorities noted that the victim reportedly had a habit of swimming while intoxicated.

The victim’s cousin recounted that he initially saw Victor hanging around the shoreline. He was shocked moments later to find Victor already floating unresponsive in the water.

Emergency responders rushed the victim to a nearby hospital but he was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician./PN
