BACOLOD City – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) – Negros Occidental has assured residents that essential goods and basic necessities remain adequately supplied in markets across the province amid the ongoing typhoon.
“Remain calm and avoid panic buying during the ongoing typhoon,” the DTI said in a social media advisory. “Supply of basic necessities remains sufficient, and we are closely monitoring prices and availability to ensure stable and fair market conditions.”
The agency also encouraged responsible purchasing to ensure that all households have access to essential goods.
Mayor Greg Gasataya confirmed that major supermarkets and grocery stores in Bacolod have sufficient stocks to last at least a week, with additional replenishments scheduled in the coming days. He echoed the DTI’s call for residents to buy only what is necessary for their families while being mindful of others’ needs.
The DTI pledged to provide daily updates on the prices and availability of basic necessities in supermarkets and groceries to prevent shortages and unfair price hikes.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) continued to monitor a low-pressure area affecting the region as Typhoon “Tino” approaches./PN
