ILOILO City – As of September 2016, the Department of Trade and Industry Iloilo Provincial Office has accredited 102 repair and service shops operating in the city and province of Iloilo. Of the 102 shops, DTI issued a total of 116 accreditation certificates since some of the shops have more than one classification.
DTI-Iloilo issued accreditation certificates to 45 motor vehicle shops, 24 refrigeration and air-conditioning shops, 18 engineering machine shops, 16 electronic shops, 11 electrical shops and two office machine and data processing equipment shops.
As provided under the Repair Shop Accreditation Law, DTI is mandated to regulate and control the operation of service and repair enterprises by providing adequate protection to safeguard the interest of the public and protect reliable and competent service and repair enterprises against malpractices which undermine their good name and reputation.
The law also promotes and develops service and repair enterprises as effective ways of hastening technological development and encouraging professionalism to assure the public of reliable, ethical and competent services.
Provincial Director Diosdado P. Cadena, Jr. advised consumers to patronize only the DTI-accredited repair and service shops that have complied with the requirements because they will be assured of competent service.
Accredited shops that have undergone the accreditation process have complied with the regulatory requirements such as business permit, insurance coverage, and Bureau of Internal Revenue registration. They also have adequate tools, and equipment and competent technicians recognized by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority or other institutions of the government./PN
