The Department of Trade and Industry is reminding the public that locally-manufactured products – particularly firecrackers and Christmas lights – must bear the necessary Philippine Standard (PS) mark, while imported products must have the Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) mark.

ILOILO City – The Department of Trade and Industry – Bureau of Product Standards (DTI-BPS) recently posted a list of local fireworks producers allowed to use the Philippine Standard (PS) mark to certify their quality and product safety.

As of Dec. 6, the DTI-BPS has issued the PS license to 19 manufacturers of fireworks, firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices – authorizing them to use the PS mark on their products.

Lynna Joy Cardinal, local trade and industry development specialist, said the PS Mark certifies that the product is safe and of good quality – advising consumers to be especially vigilant when it comes to Christmas lights and firecrackers this holiday season.

“Be sure that the Christmas lights [and firecrackers] that you buy have passed the Bureau of Philippine Standards,” Cardinal explained.

Locally-manufactured products must bear the necessary PS mark, while imported products have the Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) mark.

It emphasized the importance of the “PS Mark” in locally-manufactured products like appliances; other mandatory products such as electrical and wired devices; and mechanical and chemical products.

Below is the complete list of DTI-certified fireworks and firecrackers brands:

Ilonggos can welcome the New Year with a bang this upcoming Jan. 1 – but only in the public plazas of seven districts. They are prohibited from lighting firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices in their residences.

In Executive Order (EO) 153, series of 2017 issued Wednesday, Mayor Jose Espinosa III declared the following as firecracker zones where people can light firecrackers and pyrotechnics: Plaza Libertad (City Proper), La Paz Plaza, Lapuz Plaza, Jaro Plaza,  Molo Plaza, Arevalo Plaza, and Mandurriao Plaza.

The EO is effective for two days only – Dec. 31, 2017 (New Year’s Eve) and Jan. 1, 2018 (New Year’s Day)./PN
