ACKNOWLEDGING world-class Filipino talent, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) wants to bolster the country’s creative industry this year by reaching more audiences worldwide.
Trade and Industry Secretary Cristina Aldeguer-Roque said she already met with the Film Academy of the Philippines on how to push local films globally, noting the growing number of Filipinos abroad.
“We just have to choose which film is really best for each country. So ‘yun ‘yung gusto rin nating tutukan. So, that’s one thing kasi may Creative (Industries Development) Act na tayo eh,” she said in an interview Wednesday, January 29.
Roque added: “In Indonesia, ang gusto nilang film from us is horror, and then in Korea and in other countries, ang gusto nila ‘yung more on the sexy like Vivamax, and then in some of the countries they like romcom, in some of the countries they like the old films, the old teleseryes.”
The DTI chief said the “major concern” that needs to be done is the incorporation of foreign subtitles.
“We’re also gonna be entering ‘yung mga local Netflix nila in each country because the DTI has 29 posts all over the world, so doon natin ilalagay ‘yung mga films and doon magkaka-B2B between our movie producers here and also the producers there to be able to market the films here, abroad and also the singers and other artists,” she noted.
Independent filmmakers and other artists who are interested in showcasing their works abroad will also be given the platform, according to Roque.
She added that they have started bringing Filipino painters as well as micro, small, medium enterprises during international trades.
“No one gets left behind, ‘yun ang talagang gusto nating mangyari,” Roque stressed.
Aside from Filipino artists, the DTI also wants to boost Filipino products abroad following the enactment of ‘Tatak Pinoy’ Act last year.
“There will be a full blast push on the Tatak Pinoy so proudly Filipino – meaning, the products now of the Philippines na we are proud of and we can really export them or really push them also on both local market and on global markets also,” she said.
Halal products will also be promoted, according to Roque. (ABS-CBN News)
