ILOILO – The municipal federation president of the Liga ng mga Barangay of Dumangas, Dorothy Paes, is running for president of the Liga provincial federation.
The election is on July 30.
The Liga provincial federation president sits as ex-officio member in the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.
Paes, 40, is the barangay captain of Balabag, Dumangas. She said she would work to have all barangay officials enrolled in PhilHealth.
Paes also envisions scholarships for children of barangay officials.
She announced her intention to run for president of the Liga provincial federation on July 21 during a consultative meeting of 29 Liga municipal federation presidents at a hotel in Mandurriao, Iloilo City.
The 29 Liga municipal federation presidents were said to be supporters of gubernatorial aspirant Cong. Ferjenel Biron of the 4th District. They were from the towns of Alimodian, Zarraga, Leon, Pavia, San Miguel, Santa Barbara and Leganes (2nd District); Maasin, Janiuay, Badiangan, and Pototan (3rd District); Banate, Anilao, Dingle, San Enrique, Barotac Nuevo, Dumangas, Dueñas, and Passi City (4th District); and Barotac Viejo, San Rafael, Lemery, Ajuy, Sara, San Dionisio, Batad, Balasan, Estancia, and Carles (5th District).
All municipal Liga presidents in the 1st District, the political bailiwick of the Garins, did not attend the consultative meeting. The Garins are viewed to support the rival of Biron in the race for governor in next year’s midterm election, Cong. Arthur Defensor Jr. of the 3rd District./PN
