ILOILO City – The family of murdered overseas Filipino worker (OFW) Angelo Claveria in Cabatuan, Iloilo hopes to meet President Rodrigo Duterte who is visiting the municipality this afternoon.

They were seeking updates on Angelo’s case in South Korea, said Mayette Claveria, elder sister of the OFW.

The President will distribute Certificates of Land Ownership Award (CLOA) to 2,314 agrarian reform beneficiaries in Western Visayas at the multipurpose gym of Cabatuan.

During his visit to Angelo’s wake in Barangay Zone 4 Poblacion, Cabatuan on May 27, Special Assistant to the President Christopher “Bong” Go said the President would be discussing with South Korean authorities Angelo’s case during a June3-5 visit to that country.

“We hope to hear from the President what was discussed regarding my brother’s case,” said Mayette.

The Claveria house is only a hundred meters away from the multipurpose gym where Duterte would be meeting agrarian reform beneficiaries.

After the CLOA distribution in Cabatuan, the President would proceed to the Iloilo Convention Center in Mandurriao, Iloilo City for the Philippine Councilors League’s national assembly.

From the Iloilo Convention Center, the President would inaugurate Vista Mall in Oton, Iloilo.

Angelo was buried at the municipal cemetery of Cabatuan, Iloilo on June 1. The 34-year-old Marine Transportation graduate went to South Korea in July 2014 to work as a metal cutter. He went missing in January 2016 and just this April 3, his skeletal remains were found inside a septic tank of a water purifier plant in the city of Hwaseong, Gyeonggi province.

Go had made it clear to the Claverias that the ball was in the hands of South Korean authorities as Angelo’s case happened there.

The South Korean police’s initial investigation showed Angelo may have been murdered.  He was hit with a hard object on the head.

According to Mayette, they have not received updates from any Philippine government agency about Angelo’s case.

South Korean authorities were zeroing in on another overseas Filipino worker as suspect, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs./PN
