Duterte names Aurora Ignacio as new SSS president

MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed a new president of the Social Security System (SSS) whose charter was overhauled to ensure its long-term viability.

Duterte named Aurora Cruz Ignacio as SSS president and chief executive officer, replacing Emmanuel Dooc who resigned last month as his term automatically expired after the new SSS law took effect on March 5.

She is the second woman to hold the highest post in the SSS after Corazon dela Paz who served during the Arroyo administration.

Ignacio’s appointment paper was signed on March 28, a day before the implementation of the 45-day ban on appointments during the election period.

A former assistant secretary at the Office of President, Ignacio is currently the chairperson of the Social Security Commission, the governing body of the state-run pension fund.

She obtained her commerce degree from the Centro Escolar University.

Duterte also appointed lawyer Monalisa Dimalanta as chairperson of the National Renewable Energy Board which is under the Department of Energy and Ann Claire Credo-Cabochan as assistant secretary of the Department of Trade and Industry. (GMA News)
