Manila – President Rodrigo Duterte urged the Marines to use their new weapons “to kill the enemies of the State,” particularly terrorists.

During the ceremonial turnover of military equipment and firearms to the Philippine Marine Corps, Duterte said the newly-acquired weapons must be used “to exterminate the enemies.”

“Use it to kill enemies of the State. Ubusin niyo,” he added.

Duterte told the military to spare three bullets to shoot themselves when cornered by enemies.

“I do not want my soldiers captured, treated like dogs in their camp, mga terorista, tapos after one month, two months, iharap ka sa video, puputulin ang ulo mo,” he said.

He assured the Marines that the government will take care of their families should they die on duty.

“‘Wag kayong matakot. Kung sakali, ako ang bahala. I will see to it that your family will survive, and I will see to it that your children will have good education,” Duterte said.

During the ceremony, Duterte lauded the 103 officers and 1,800 enlisted personnel who successfully regained the Mapandi, Banggolo and Masiu bridges in Marawi.

He urged the Marines to continue working with this administration not only in the promotion of peace and order but also in humanitarian and disaster response in times of unfortunate disasters./PN
