MANILA — Terrafirma Dyip leaned on a historic all-around performance from import Ali Mubashar as they outlasted the Converge FiberXers, 111-100, in overtime to remain unbeaten in the PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup at the Ynares Center in Montalban, Rizal.
Mubashar delivered a dominant stat line of 50 points and 25 rebounds, including seven three-point conversions, as the Dyip seized control in the extra period to improve to a 2-0 record and join Phoenix Super LPG at the top of the standings.
After forcing overtime on a clutch conversion by Mubashar late in regulation, Terrafirma wasted no time asserting itself in the extension, opening with a triple from Jerrick Ahanmisi and a split free throw from Mubashar.
With Converge struggling to convert, the Dyip pulled away behind another triple from Mubashar, a basket from Maverick Ahanmisi, and a follow-up conversion from Mubashar to stretch the lead to double digits.
Jerrick Ahanmisi provided solid support with 17 points, while Paolo Hernandez tallied 13 points, six assists, and five rebounds. Rookie center Geo Chiu also impressed with a near double-double of nine points and 13 rebounds.
Kylor Kelley and Juan Gomez de Liaño paced the FiberXers with 17 points apiece, while Alec Stockton added 15 markers. Justine Baltazar, Jonnel Policarpio, and Archie Concepcion chipped in 13, 11, and 10 points, respectively, as Converge dropped to a 1-1 slate.
In another game, Rain or Shine Elasto Painters erased a double-digit deficit to turn back Macau Black Knights, 116-109, and open their campaign on a winning note.
Jaylen Johnson led the Painters with 29 points, while Adrian Nocum added 19 markers. Jhonard Clarito and Gian Mamuyac contributed 16 and 11 points, respectively.
Trailing by as many as 12 points in the second quarter, Rain or Shine mounted a steady comeback behind Johnson, Mamuyac, and Felix Lemetti to seize an 83-78 advantage entering the final frame.
The contest tightened in the fourth quarter with the score tied at 107-all before the Painters unleashed a decisive run anchored by Mamuyac, Nocum, Clarito, and Johnson to seal the victory.
Phoenix Shackelford led the Black Knights with 25 points, while Damian Chongqui added 22. Jenning Leung, Tony Mitchell, and Ramon Cao contributed 20, 18, and 14 points, respectively, as Macau fell to 0-2./PN
