BACOLOD City – A 57-year-old electric bicycle (e-bike) driver was killed after he was sucker punched twice by a man believed to be suffering from a mental illness in Barangay Granada on Monday afternoon.

Wenne Diamante was a resident of Relocation Site, Matab-ang in the said village. He and suspect Eusebio Miranda, 39, crossed paths at a bakery, according to Police Station 5.

Miranda suddenly punched Diamante twice, causing the victim to fall head first and hit a rock.

Miranda tried to run away, but he was chased down by concerned citizens and eventually cornered at Bangga Escala in neighboring Barangay Estefania.

Diamante was rushed to a hospital for treatment but was declared “dead on arrival” by the attending physician.

Police Station 5 commander, Police Captain John Christopher Masangkay, said the suspect has been isolated to another jail cell due to concerns that he might hurt the other detainees.

Diamante’s family, meanwhile, expressed intentions to press charges against Miranda.

Masangkay stated that the prosecution will determine whether Miranda is mentally fit to stand trial, adding that the suspect was well aware of the crime he committed./PN
