ILOILO City – Teams tipped to dominate immediately made an impact at the start of the 2017 Isuzu 17U Girls’ Volleyball League over the weekend at the Ateneo de Iloilo-Santa Maria Catholic School and Iloilo Doctors College gyms.
St. John Institute (Hua Ming) from Bacolod City remains unbeaten after two matches in Bracket A, beating Ramon Avanceña National High School of (25-21, 25-22) and Ateneo de Iloilo (33-31, 28-30, 25-16).
Over at Bracket B, Sta. Barbara has gained the early lead after scoring a 19-25, 25-12, 26-24 victory over the Dingle squad. Yet to see action in the group are the University of San Agustin High School and Fort San Pedro National High School.
Central Philippine University, Hua Siong College of Iloilo and La Paz National High School, meanwhile, share the top-spot in Bracket C after winning their opening matches. Sun Yat Sen High School finished its campaign with a 1-3 record.
In Bracket D, Bacolod Tay Tung High School has split their two matches so far by handily winning over Passi (25-7, 25-8) before losing to Iloilo National High School (25-7, 25-13).
Action resumes today with Ramon Avanceña facing the University of the Philippines High Schol-Iloilo at 8 a.m., Iloilo National High School-B versus Dingle at 9 a.m., Fort San Pedro National High School against the University of San Agustin at 10 a.m. and the Ateneo de Iloilo-Pavia tiff at 11 a.m.
In the afternoon matches, Iloilo National High School-D faces GVCS at 1 p.m., Dingle will battle Fort San Pedro National High School at 2 p.m. and Central Philippine University against La Paz National High School at 3 p.m.
At least 20 teams from Iloilo and Negros are participating in the tournament made possible through the cooperation of the Iloilo City Government, Iloilo Isuzu Corp. and Akari Philippines./PN
