ANTIQUE – A 61-year-old farmer died in a fire in Sitio Igpahi, Barangay Villaflor, Tobias Fornier town on Thursday, April 25.

Cezar Miedes sustained severe burns all over his body, police said.

Personnel of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office rushed the victim to the President Diosdado Macapagal District Hospital but he was declared “dead on arrival.”

According to Police Lieutenant Romeo Sabrine, deputy chief of Tobias Fornier Municipal Police Station, Miedes burned dried coconut husks in his rice field fire at around 1:20 p.m.

The blaze, however, immediately spread because of dried leaves in the area.

Sabrine said the victim tried to control the fire but he fell down and was trapped in the burning area.

Police added that the victim may have suffered an asthma attack.

As of this writing, the victim’s remains were at a local funeral parlor for post-mortem examination./PN
