ILOILO City – The largest and longest-running art biennale in the country, the Visayas Islands Visual Arts Exhibit and Conference (Viva ExCon) is set to land on the shores of Iloilo, gathering artists and guests from all over the country, from Nov. 17 to 20.

The four-day event is set to host exhibits showcasing the works of notable artists from all over Visayas and conferences where art experts will get to talk about their craft, in various venues around the city.

With the theme “Hakos:Embracing the Art of the Islands,” Viva ExCon aims to unite and foster fellowship among various artists in the region to bridge gap between the scattered Visayas islands and form one vibrant art community.

The 2016 Viva ExCon is set to recognize and exhibit the work of seven home-grown artists who’ve made a substantial impact on their respective communities and brought honor to the country through their art.They are Antonio Alcosebaand JavyVillacin from Cebu, DulceCuñaAnacion from Leyte, Manny Montelibano from Negros, and Iloilo’s own ElvertBañares, Oliver Exmundo and AllainHablo.

“Turns in form,” ashow curated by Dr. Patrick Flores of Venice Art Biennale fame featuring the contemporary of the Visayas is also slated to be inaugurated on the second day of the conference at the Casa Real.

Viva ExCon is also expected to honor to the late Ilonggo artist TimoteoJumayao Jr.,a prolific multi-media sculptor, with a tribute exhibit at the Museo Iloilo.

Aside from the conference and exhibitions, Viva ExCon will mount an art fair welcoming artists to bring their own works to lend art enthusiasts and collectors a better idea of contemporary visual art in the island region.

VIVA ExCon 2016 is funded by the National Commission on Culture and the Arts and hosted by the Iloilo Visual Arts Collective and the VIVA ExCon Organization Iloilo.The event is made possible by partnerships with the Iloilo Provincial Government, the Iloilo City Government, the Department of Tourism Region 6, and local artists.
