BACOLOD City – The Land Transportation Office (LTO), the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) and the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) must coordinate with each other to strictly implement Republic Act (RA) 10586, or the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013.

RA 10586 aims to “ensure road safety through the observance of responsible and ethical driving standards.”

The city council passed a resolution seeking the strict implementation of such law in the city, especially that most vehicular accidents in Bacolod involve drunken motorists.

Resolution proponent Councilor Caesar Distrito cited a recent incident in Barangay Villamonte, which claimed the lives of three people and injured several others.

The driver of the car involved in the incident was under the influence of alcohol, Distrito said.

According to Distrito, RA 10586 will “penalize the acts of driving under the influence of alcohol, dangerous drugs and other intoxicating substances.”

It also sets the standards of safe driving, said Distrito.

“In order to prevent road accidents and loss of lives, the LTO, the BCPO and BTAO have to coordinate and formulate necessary measures to strictly implement the said law,” he added./PN
