ILOILO City – A relative of a mayor in Antique was shot dead by the chief executive’s former bodyguard in Barangay Duyong, Pandan town.
The 33-year-old Rabony Rectra of Barangay Poblacion, Tibiao, Antique died of multiple gunshot wounds on Friday night.
Police caught suspect Bennie Dable, 49. He used to work as bodyguard of Pandan’s Mayor Jonathan Tan.
The shooting happened around 10 p.m. at Mayor Tan’s house, according to Police Officer 2 Lorence Callancanao of Pandan police station.
From what the police have gathered so far, Rectra tried to stab Dable with a breadknife.
“Dable ran away but Rectra eventually cornered him. He shot the victim several times to defend himself,” said Gallancanao.
Dable surrendered to the police. He also gave up his .45 pistol.
It was unclear as of this writing what triggered Rectra to try stabbing Dable. Gallancanao theorized that Rectra was “attacked by his illness.” He did not elaborate.
