ILOILO City — A former police officer wanted for murder voluntarily surrendered to the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) at Camp Martin Teofilo B. Delgado in Fort San Pedro here early Sunday, July 5.
The suspect, identified only by the alias “Jerry,” 40, married, and a resident of Arevalo district, turned himself in to acting PRO-6 director Brigadier General Randulf T. Tuaño at around 12:45 a.m.
Police said the suspect was the subject of a warrant of arrest for murder issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 31 in Iloilo City on April 26, 2022. The court did not recommend bail.
Authorities said previous efforts by the Philippine National Police – Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG) to serve the warrant against the suspect on July 1 at Iloilo City Police Station 4 were unsuccessful.
During his surrender, the former police officer also turned over his issued Taurus TS9 service firearm with one magazine.
As of press time, the suspect was under the custody of Iloilo City Police Station 1 for documentation and appropriate legal proceedings.
Tuaño said the suspect decided to surrender to finally face the charges against him.
“Ayon mismo sa kanya, nagpasya siyang sumuko dahil gusto na niyang harapin ang kanyang kaso upang matapos na ang problemang kanyang kinakaharap. Ang mahalaga ay mapayapa nating naipatupad ang warrant of arrest at maiharap siya sa hukuman nang naaayon sa batas,” Tuaño said.
The region’s top cop said the peaceful surrender highlighted the importance of sustained intelligence operations, effective coordination, and strong police-community engagement.
He also urged other wanted persons to voluntarily submit to the jurisdiction of the courts.
“Kung may outstanding warrant of arrest kayo, ang payo ko ay harapin ninyo ang inyong kaso. Walang sinuman ang higit sa batas, ngunit may pagkakataon ang bawat isa na harapin ang proseso nang mapayapa at may paggalang sa due process,” he said.
Police records showed that the National Bureau of Investigation filed murder and theft charges against Jerry and another police officer over a shooting incident in Barangay Nabitasan, La Paz district in January 2020 where drug suspect Allen Muller and Delfin Britanico were killed.
Authorities said Jerry was assigned at the Iloilo City Police Office’s City Drug Enforcement Unit at that time. /PN
