Expo to explore Iloilo’s innovation potential

THE ILOILO Innovation Expo, organized by Innovate Iloilo, is a coalition of 32 institutions led by the Province of Iloilo which will take place on Oct. 21 to 25, mainly at the Iloilo Convention Center.

The weeklong event will serve as the centerpiece for 2019’s Regional Science and Tech Week.  

“The whole expo will be there sa convention center for people to visit,” said Iloilo Business Club’s executive director Maria Lara.

“It’s free. Halls A and B sa convention center, but the opening program will be on Monday, at nine o’ clock,” she added.

Monday’s event will serve as the opening ceremony for the expo as well as the Regional Science and Tech Week. On Tuesday, an investment forum event will be held for various start-ups. It will also involve a reverse pitching event, where the needs of the local government are pitched at the start-ups for solutions. There will also be presentations of existing solutions from the start-ups.

“It will be the first investment forum na may reverse pitching,” Lara said.

The Iloilo Innovation Summit will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. It will feature Commission on Higher Education chairman Prospero De Vera. There will be many other keynote speakers, many of whom will talk about the commercialization of local products and the creation of an Innovation Roadmap for Iloilo.

Thursday and Friday will feature the National Convention of the ICT Confederation of the Philippines. There will also be a trade fair at SM City and Iloilo Convention Center.

“All of this…this is about the display of capacities, resources and talents of Ilonggos,” Lara explained./PN
