ILOILO City – Most parts of the Visayas are expected to continue experiencing generally sunny and humid weather in the coming days, with temperatures in some areas climbing to as high as 36 to 37 degrees Celsius, based on the latest regional weather forecast released by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
In its five-day outlook covering May 10 to 14, PAGASA’s Visayas weather bureau said partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms will prevail across the region. Coastal waters are expected to remain slight to moderate under light to moderate winds coming from the east to northeast.
In Western Visayas, Iloilo may register temperatures between 26°C and 36°C early this week before slightly dipping to a maximum of 35°C by midweek. Similar warm conditions are forecast in Guimaras, Capiz, Aklan, and Antique where daytime temperatures may reach 34°C.
Negros Occidental is also expected to experience hotter afternoons, with temperatures possibly reaching 36°C from Monday onward. Meanwhile, Cebu, Bohol, Negros Oriental, and Siquijor are forecast to record highs of around 32°C, while Leyte and Biliran may reach 33°C.
In Eastern Visayas, Samar could experience temperatures up to 35°C, while Eastern Samar may see highs of 32°C during the forecast period.
PAGASA also noted that Occidental Mindoro may post the highest temperature in the covered areas at 37°C throughout the week.
Weather specialists attributed the prevailing warm conditions to the easterlies, or warm winds originating from the Pacific Ocean, which continue to affect large parts of the country.
The latest advisory follows earlier warnings about elevated heat index levels in several areas in Western Visayas and other parts of the country.
Health and disaster officials continue to remind residents to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during the hottest hours of the day, drink plenty of water, and take extra precautions for children, older persons, and individuals vulnerable to heat-related illnesses./PN
