ILOILO City – A 25-year-old man posing as an operative of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) was arrested in Barangay Bago Chiquito, Panay, Capiz.
Depee Dorado of Barangay Poblacion, Panay was accused of trying to swindle a drug surrenderer. On Friday around 3:30 p.m. he was entrapped by operatives of the Capiz Police Provincial Office (CPPO), PDEA and Panay police station.
He asked money from drug surrenderer Roy Burgos, said Senior Superintendent Samuel Nacion, CPPO director.
Dorado told Burgos’ sister Lea that her brother would be removed from PDEA’s list of drug surrenderers for a P40,000 fee, said Nacion
Suspicious, the two Burgos siblings sought the police’s help. An entrapment was planned.
“He tried to resist arrest. We’re checking if there were other victims,” said Nacion.
Dorado was detained at the lock-up cell of the Panay police station.
PDEA assistant regional director Levi Ortiz confirmed that Dorado was not connected with the agency.
“We have no personnel in the name of Depee Dorado. Besides, we never settle any drug case,” said Ortiz.
He warned the public against extortionists posing as PDEA agents./PN
