Families affected by shear line get P310K aid

ILOILO – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office 6 released a total of P310,880 in assistance to families affected by a recent shear line.

Food packs, hygiene and kitchen kits were given to displaced families in Kalibo and New Washington in Aklan province and in Cadiz City in Negros Occidental.

Aside from DSWD, the local government units of Malay, Nabas and New Washington in Aklan also provided assistance.

“We, at DSWD, are always ready to augment the resources of local government units should the need arise,” said DSWD-6 regional director Carmelo Nochete.

As to the agency’s preparations, Nochete said the department is maintaining a P5-million standby fund for any eventuality.

Aside from this, there are 26,197 available family food packs. Of these, 14,975 packs are prepositioned in 19 strategic locations in Western Visayas.
