Family week

HOLY Week was Family Week. It was an occasion for families to re-unite, be home and pray together.

For us, of our brood of seven children who are now all on their own, at least five were home for the holidays, including two grandchildren from our architect son who married and settled in Silay City in Negros Occidental.

Many IIonggos who have relatives in Negros Occ. should be happy to know that the bridge project connecting Panay, Guimaras and Negros Islands will now be implemented.

Public Works secretary Mark Villar announced in February that a feasibility study on the project is being prepared by his department to build a bridge from Panay to Negros. Once finished, funds will be provided by a cash grant coming from China.

Villar said the bridge would measure six kilometers long between Panay and Guimaras and 13 kilometers between Guimaras and Negros. It will be the country’s longest when finished, besting the two-kilometer long San Juanico Bridge that connects Leyte and Samar provinces, according to Villar.

The bridge will also be timely with the Federalization of our country and hopefully re-build and now restore the great ILONGGO NATION of our forefathers.

Going back to the topic of our children’s visit, this is a most welcome family event for us every year because they have settled in different places and we do see them often anymore, with two of them residing abroad.

After two major dinners and fellowship at our home in Mandurriao, and hearing early Easter Mass on Sunday, off we went to Anhawan Beach Resort in Oton about mid-morning. The place is full with the typical family crowd, mostly children. And to our surprise, no more entrance fees to the resort this time.

But now they have a new policy pasted at the table end, which reads: “Consumable Table”. It was funny, but we did not quite understand how we can consume the table.  We asked for clarification. Oh, it simply means that “no baon” allowed.

There is a minimum of P1,000 food that may be ordered from the canteen and consumed in the premises. We liked the fiesta atmosphere especially with the family patrons that Anhawan have attracted.

Of course the resort cottages at the eastern end of the beach complex have remained well-maintained.

And Oton town, we noted, continues to expand its commercial area along the main road westward from its public market area towards Anhawan
