ILOILO – A 40-year-old farmer was shot dead in Barangay Atimonan, Janiuay town on Wednesday.
Roswald Casquite died of severe head injuries. The suspect was his brother-in-law Jimmy Claudio. Both were residents of the village.
The shooting happened around 9 p.m.
According to the police, Claudio caught Casquite allegedly raping Vern (not her real name, the former’s wife) at gunpoint in the forested area of the village.
Prior to the incident, Vern reportedly asked permission from Claudio to go to their farm to harvest vegetables, but she did not return.
Claudio went to the farm and looked for his wife. There he saw Casquite together with Vern.
Claudio reportedly went home to get his 12-gauge shotgun.
When he came back, the two has already left the area.
Later, Claudio spotted them sleeping together inside a nipa hut.
Claudio then shot Casquite, while Vern fled the crime scene, police said.
Claudio turned himself in to their village chief, Rebecca Lastimoso. He was subsequently taken to the Janiuay police station.
A murder case would be filed against him.
Claudio was the brother of Casquite’s wife./PN
