THE Department of Agriculture (DA) called on local farmers and fisherfolk to start harvesting crops as part of the preparations for Tropical Storm (TS) Kristine.
In an advisory, the DA called said farmers and fisherfolk should harvest mature crops and mobilize post-harvest equipment and facilities, and relocate farm machinery, equipment, and other farm tools to higher ground.
It also advised farmers to secure seed reserves, planting materials, and other farm inputs in safe storage areas, and clear drainages in irrigation and rice paddies, along with securing the sufficient feeds and water for relocated animals.
Catanduanes was placed under Storm Signal No. 2 yesterday, October 22, as Kristine was located 335 kilometers east of East of Virac, Catanduanes with maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center, and gustiness of up to 80 kph, moving west northwestward at 10 kph, as of 11 a.m.
Over 20 areas have also been declared under Storm Signal No. 1.
“Kristine” is forecast to move generally northwestward until it makes landfall over Isabela or northern Aurora this Wednesday night or on Thursday early morning.
It is also forecast to gradually intensify into a severe tropical storm before making landfall.
A number of local government units across the country have declared class suspensions on Monday, October 21, in anticipation of inclement weather conditions due to Kristine. (GMA Integrated News)
