ILOILO City – A 22-year-old apprentice in a fastcraft company drowned in Barangay Libertad, Lapuz district yesterday afternoon, June 1.

Sammy Brylle Gonzales was a resident of Zamboanga City. He was pronounced dead at about 4:18 p.m. at St. Paul’s Hospital Iloilo.

He saved his fellow apprentice, Aira Salcedo, 24, but he went missing after strong waves hit, said Police Staff Sergeant Julius Lechoncito of the PNP Maritime Police-Lapuz Station in a radio interview.

Gonzales’ body was found by the Philippine Coast Guard after a 20-minute search.

Salcedo, meanwhile, is now in stable condition at the West Visayas State University Hospital.

The two apprentices were both graduating students of the Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering program at the Zamboanga City State Polytechnic College./PN
