ILOILO City – Mayor Jerry Treñas is scheduled to meet with contractors responsible for the ongoing rehabilitation of the city’s public markets.
In a collaborative effort with the City Engineer’s Office, Architect’s Office, and Administrator’s Office, this meeting aims to discuss strategies for accelerating the redevelopment process.
During a recent inspection on Saturday, Nov. 25, Mayor Treñas evaluated the construction progress of various district public markets. He noted that the La Paz Public Market’s development lags compared to others.

“Ensuring timely completion of these improvements is crucial for our city’s development,” said Treñas. “It is imperative to assess the construction progress regularly.”
The city embarked on a significant redevelopment of its two main markets – Iloilo Terminal Market, also known as “Super”, and Iloilo Central Market – in September this year.
This initiative became feasible through a public-private partnership (PPP) with SM Prime Holdings, Inc. Under this partnership, SM Prime Holdings was granted a 25-year lease agreement to revamp these markets at no expense to the city government.
As per the agreement, the markets will undergo development while remaining under the city government’s management through the Local Economic Enterprise Office. These upgrades are part of a broader plan to transform Iloilo’s market infrastructure, including the Iloilo Terminal and Central Market./PN
