Ferry operators not feeling oil price drop

BY DOMINIQUE GABRIEL G. BAÑAGA

BACOLOD City – Ferry operators serving the Bacolod-Iloilo and Bacolod-Dumangas routes said they were not feeling the recent rollback in oil prices.

Two weeks ago, diesel prices rolled back by as much as P6.10 per liter. There was another rollback of P2 a week ago.

Earlier in July 26, diesel prices again rolled back for the third time in a week at P1.85 per liter.

Despite the fuel prices going down, however, Frank Carbon – operator of Weesam Express – said the rollbacks were not really significant.

Carbon also said they were again suffering from low passenger volume due to surges in cases of coronavirus disease 2019, particularly in Iloilo.

At present, Carbon said, trips between Iloilo and Bacolod remain at twice round trips daily.

Also, he said, they could not simply increase their fares, pointing out that the process is tedious./PN
