BACOLOD City – A fire that reached third alarm status on Saturday, Sept. 9, displaced 52 families in Purok Tangkong, Barangay 7.

A total of 151 individuals evacuated to the Barangay Villamonte multi-purpose gym, according to the city’s Department of Social Services and Development.

Property losses were pegged at P195,000 for the 25 totally damaged houses and two partially damaged ones.

Chief Inspector Stephen Jardeleza, fire marshal of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in this city, said the blaze allegedly originated from the house of a certain Frederico Lumayno due to unattended cooking using butane fuel.

The burned houses were made of light materials.

The fire broke out at 9:45 p.m. and a “fire out” was declared around 11:15 p.m.

No one was injured.

Bacolod City’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office provided food packs, folding beds and sleeping kits, hygiene kits, and modular tents to the affected residents./PN
