BACOLOD City –The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 6 yesterday distributed financial assistance to 30 Central Market vendors affected by the fire last week.
Vendors whose stalls were totally destroyed received P10,000 while owners of damaged stalls got P5,000 each.
Additionally, the city government will also provide cash assistance to the affected stall owners.
Alma Gustilo, head of the city’s Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD), her office is now processing the documents of the fire victims for the immediate release of assistance.
The releasing, Gustilo, said will be made through the Bayad Agad program. Eighteen vendors with destroyed stalls will receive P15,000 each and 12 more with damaged stalls will have P10,000 each.
As to the 12 other stalls spared from fire but affected by the board up, Gustilo said they will undergo assessment for cash aid, too.
Approximately 50 vendors were displaced in a 30-minute fire that gutted a part of the Central Market on Bonifacio Street, Barangay 12 early morning of December 13.
The Bureau of Fire Protection-Bacolod City received a fire call at 2:50 a.m. and firefighters were able to stop the blaze from spreading at 3:20 a.m.
Authorities said the fire was electrical in nature and damage was pegged at over P4.7 million./PN
