Fire hits 2 houses in Jaro

ILOILO City – A fire razed two houses along E. Lopez Street in Barangay Our Lady of Lourdes, Jaro district around 11:06 p.m. on Sunday, March 10.

The house owned by Teresa Hontoria was totally gutted while the adjacent house of Felconia Herradera was partially damaged.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Iloilo City estimated the damage at around P378,000.

Fire Officer 2 John Paquito Verona, arson investigator for BFP-Iloilo City, said the fire broke out on the second floor of Hontoria’s old wooden house.

It quickly spread to the first floor occupied by the beverage shop and to Herradera’s house where the tombstone (lapida)-making business and printing shop were located.

The fire reached “second alarm” status and a “fire out” was declared at around 11:27 p.m.

Verona said the fire may have been electrical in nature./PN
