BACOLOD City – Local authorities continue monitoring the sale of firecrackers and pyrotechnic materials.
Selling such products is allowed only at the back of the Pope John Paul II Tower in the Reclamation Area from Dec. 22 to 31.
Seventy-six firecracker vendors were permitted to put up shop at the firecracker zone.
The Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) work stoppage order against them had been lifted “in principle,” according to Executive Assistant Ernesto Pineda.
The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) have submitted reports on the vendors’ compliance with labor and occupational safety and health standards to the DOLE central office.
They have not yet received a response due to the holidays, said Pineda, head of the Market Coordinating and Monitoring Task Force.
Superintendent Noel Polines, BCPO operations chief, said the order is considered lifted once compliance reports are sent to Manila.
But Polines warned that police will confiscate all firecrackers and pyrotechnics sold in non-designated areas.
The BCPO will conduct unannounced inspections and will particularly look into the products’ labels, he said.
Polines assured that fire safety measures are in place at the firecracker zone; a BFP fire truck is on standby.
Pineda reiterated that the vendors’ stocks must be limited to 50 kilos for firecrackers and 500 kilos for pyrotechnics./PN
