BACOLOD City – Fireworks-related injuries in this city logged over 50 percent increase during the surveillance period from December 22, 2024 to January 1, 2025.
Data from the City Health Office (CHO) showed that 22 fireworks-related injuries were recorded in the 10-day period.
The cases range from 11 to 19 years old and 21 out 22 were males.
As of this writing, the CHO said only one victim remained at a hospital.
Grace Tan, chief of the CHO’s Environment Sanitation Division, said the number is expected to increase until the end of the Department of Health’s monitoring period on January 6.
She added that the final figure on January 6 is sure to be more than twice the 11 cases logged during the surveillance cycle from December 22, 2023 to January 6, 2024.
The increase in the number of injuries this year was attributed to the circulation of do-it-yourself fireworks and irresponsible individuals , Tan added.
She further said that there was no reported case of stray bullet injury in the city./PN
