MANILA – The Philippines’ 1.2 million business process outsourcing workforce must upgrade their skills to remain competitive, the head of a business process outsourcing (BPO) firm said recently.
Accenture Philippines is working with the government and the academe to produce “job-ready” graduates since the country “is still catching up” when it comes to technology, its country managing director Lito Tayag said.
“We need to be able to upskill our people at a certain phase in order to be able to maintain our competitiveness as a country of preferred destination for outsourcing,” Tayag told ANC.
Accenture’s upskill efforts include an online training program where at least 12,000 jobseekers have registered, he said.
The country’s outsourcing industry plans to grow its workforce to 1.8 million in 2022, which will have a “significant” contribution to the labor market and the economy, Tayag said. (ABS-CBN News)
