FIRST 100-DAY MARK: W. Visayas execs get thumbs up from DILG

“They are expected to do their tasks beyond the 100-day mark,” says Engineer Ariel Iglesia, Department of Interior and Local Government reminding local chief executives in Western Visayas. (PNA)

ILOILO – Elected officials in Western Visayas have done their job during their first 100 days in service, according to the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

But they are expected to do their tasks beyond the 100-day mark, stressed DILG Region 6 director Engineer Ariel Iglesia.

Iglesia said that they have monitored the performance of local executives through its personnel in the municipal and city levels.

“Okay naman ang first 100 days at sabi ko naka-take off na sila on their term,” Iglesia added.

Winning candidates in the last May 13, 2019 midterm elections have assumed office on July 1.

On the same day, Iglesia started keeping eye on them, especially local chief executives – governors and city and municipal mayors – who are new to their jobs.

Sa 100 days kasi supposed to be ang dami na nilang ginagawa aside from knowing their LGU (local government units) well. Nagpa-plano na rin sila especially mayroon na silang executive and legislative agenda for the next three years of their term,” cited Iglesia.

While they had rendered their first 100 days, the DILG regional director said local government officials are expected to implement planned programs for the succeeding years.

Mag-implement na sila ng delivery of services to their constituents,” he added.

Before their stint, the elected governors, mayors, city and municipal councilors have undergone training and orientation spearheaded by DILG’s attached agency Local Government Academy. First-timer governors also have their orientation.

Iglesia said the DILG has paid attention to the first 100 days of newly elected officials because their constituents were “eager” to witness what the public servant will do during the first months of his or her term.

However, DILG will not fine or penalize new local officials who failed to fulfill what they promised during the campaign season, Iglesia clarified./PN
