ILOILO City – The provincial government of Guimaras designated areas for the community fireworks display in each of its five municipalities in preparation for the New Year’s Eve celebration.
Gov. Samuel Gumarin issued local Executive Order No. 26 on Thursday that assigned the five “firecracker zones” in the island province.
The zones include the provincial capitol ground in Jordan, municipal plazas in Sibunag, Nueva Valencia and Buenavista, and the Barangay Suclaran plaza in San Lorenzo.
The “firecracker zones” were identified in accordance to President Rodrigo Duterte’s Executive Order 28, which regulates and controls the use of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices in the country.
“Local government units are encouraged to conduct information campaigns and other relevant activities that will heighten public awareness of the risks of using firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices,” part of the President’s executive order stated.
Jaypee Kein Entedicho, information officer III of Guimaras provincial government, said a public address system started operating in the island on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) once again reminded the public of its “no stray bullets, no indiscriminate firing” campaign.
PRO-6 spokesman Superintendent Gilbert Gorero said violators will be easily identified and charged through their integrated ballistics identification system.
PRO-6 also has a database of all licensed firearms Western Visayas.
The regional police office provided hotline numbers 0999-995-5072 and 0999-558-7914 so that the public can report incidents of indiscriminate firing.
Gorero assured that the identity of the informants will be kept confidential. (PNA/PN)
