BACOLOD City – Public Works and traffic authorities warned of vehicular congestion once construction work for the flyover at the Araneta Avenue-Magsaysay Street intersection starts Monday next week.

But the Department of Public Works and Highways’ (DPWH) Bacolod City District Engineering Office (DEO) will manage it, according to Assistant District Engineer Leah Jamero, DEO public information officer.

District Engineer Abraham Villareal already coordinated with the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO), Jamero said.

Two inner lanes will be used during the construction, while the two outer lanes along Araneta Avenue shall remain open to traffic “but possible traffic problems may occur,” she said.

A traffic advisory issued by BTAO stated that vehicles may be rerouted starting March 25.

Alternative routes include the Taculing-Alijis Bridge for vehicles bound for the Alijis and south area and the Lacson Extension at the back of Goldenfield.

Those from Magsungay, Singcang-Airport, Calong-Calong, and Villa Esperanza may use Arnaldo Street up to Barangay 35 when heading to the downtown area and other northern areas, said BTAO.

The second of its kind in the city, the P367-million planned structure will be a two-lane, 195-meter permanent modular flyover. Its construction was delayed by road right-of-way issues, said Jamero.

The first flyover in Bacolod is along Lacson Street-Circumferential Road in Bangga Pepsi, Barangay Bata. It was inaugurated on Aug. 19, 2011./PN
