ILOILO City – Full-scale security is being rolled out across Western Visayas as police brace for a massive Holy Week travel surge, deploying personnel to tourist hotspots, transport hubs, and major highways to prevent crime and ensure public safety under the Ligtas SUMVAC 2026 campaign.
The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) announced heightened police visibility from March 29 to May 31, 2026, covering churches, bus terminals, seaports, airports, and key tourist destinations as thousands of travelers are expected to move across the region.
Authorities said the intensified deployment is timed not only for Holy Week but also for a string of major events, including Philippine Veterans Week, Araw ng Kagitingan, Labor Day, and local fiestas — periods traditionally marked by increased public movement and heightened security risks.
Police assistance desks will be stationed in strategic areas to respond to emergencies, while patrol operations and checkpoints will be ramped up to deter criminal activity.
The Regional Highway Patrol Unit 6 will simultaneously enforce road safety measures, including deploying traffic marshals and conducting inspections at transport terminals.
Police Brigadier General Josefino Ligan, regional director of PRO-6, underscored that the sweeping security measures are meant to reassure the public during the peak travel season.
“We want the public to travel and celebrate with confidence. Our personnel are fully prepared to respond to any situation to ensure everyone’s safety and security during the summer vacation and Holy Week,” Ligan said.
He also urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities.
“With vigilance and cooperation from the community, we can ensure a peaceful and worry-free holiday for all,” he added.
PRO-6 said coordination with local government units and other law enforcement agencies is ongoing to ensure a unified and region-wide security effort as the holiday exodus peaks./PN
