ILOILO – An alleged member of the Communist Terrorists Group (CTG) surrendered to police authorities in Barangay Guadalupe, Janiuay on Dec. 27.
“Ka Romel,” a 33-year-old resident of Sitio Tinagong Dagat, Barangay Cabatangan in Lambunao, Iloilo, was affiliated with the Igcabon Platoon, Central Front Committee, Komiteng Rehiyon-Panay.
Ka Romel’s surrender at around 4:34 p.m. was facilitated by the members of the 603rd Company, Regional Mobile Force Battalion 6, under the leadership of Police Major Norbert A. Sipole, along with support from the Lambunao Municipal Police Station and the 82nd Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army’s 3rd Infantry Division.
During negotiations, authorities successfully convinced Ka Romel to lay down his arms and relinquish a homemade shotgun and ammunition.
The former CTG member, who is currently undergoing custodial debriefing, expressed his desire to reintegrate into mainstream society, lead a peaceful life, and pursue a more constructive path alongside his family.
The local government of Lambunao is actively processing benefits for Ka Romel, including his enrollment in the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program./PN
