BACOLOD City – This city has increased the monthly allowance of its Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs) from P2,500 to P7,000.
The city council recently approved in the third and final reading the proposed ordinance amending Section 3.1 of City Ordinance (CO) No. 342 Series of 2003 that strengthens and institutionalizes the various nutrition programs and other related services of Bacolod.
Councilor Claudio Jesus Puentevella said the allowance increase is an expression of the city’s appreciation to BNSs, who served as front-liners tirelessly working to ensure that every Bacolodnon is provided with proper health care.
“BNS workers are considered modern-day heroes because of their unwavering commitment to work with compassion for the people they serve, as they generously give their time and effort to delivering the public service to their assigned barangay as partners of the government,” Puentevella, who proposed the local law, added.
The amended ordinance also stated that “There shall be an automatic review by the City Nutrition Committee after two years from the passage of this Ordinance to determine the necessity or propriety of any additional increase to said monthly allowance, taking into consideration the city’s personnel ceiling requirements and availability of funds, and to submit its recommendation to the City Mayor and the Sangguniang Panglungsod for consideration and approval.”/PN
