SAN REMIGIO, Antique – Former mayor Glenn Cabigunda died on Saturday afternoon, July 24, at a private hospital in Iloilo City. He was 61 years old.
He had liver cirrhosis, according to his brother Vice Mayor Graham Cabigunda.
“Ginakasubo gid ka bilog namun nga pamilya nga ginapamaan sa tanan nga nagtaliwan run ang amun bugto, former mayor kag kadya nga Sanggunniang Bayan member, Glenn ‘Totong’ Vidal Cabigunda,” according to the vice mayor.
Cabigunda served as municipal mayor for three consecutive terms – 2010-2013, 2013-2016 and 2016-2019.
He had many infrastructure projects such as barangay roads and farm-to-market roads.
In the 2019 election, he ran for SB member and won as No. 1 SB member.
Cirrhosis is a late stage of scarring (fibrosis) of the liver caused by many forms of liver diseases and conditions, such as hepatitis and chronic alcoholism.
Each time the liver is injured — whether by disease, excessive alcohol consumption or another cause — it tries to repair itself. In the process, scar tissue forms. As cirrhosis progresses, more and more scar tissue forms, making it difficult for the liver to function (decompensated cirrhosis). Advanced cirrhosis is life-threatening.
The liver damage done by cirrhosis generally can’t be undone. But if liver cirrhosis is diagnosed early and the cause is treated, further damage can be limited and, rarely, reversed, according to Mayo Clinic, a US-based nonprofit organization committed to clinical practice, education and research, providing expert, whole-person care to everyone who needs healing./PN
