BACOLOD City – Four barangays in Bacolod City have recorded confirmed cases of African Swine Fever (ASF), following the latest laboratory results released by the City Veterinary Office (CVO).
As of July 24, the CVO confirmed that one hog sample collected from a raiser in Barangay Granada and two samples from Barangay Bata tested positive in both the initial and confirmatory laboratory examinations.
The latest results add Barangays Granada and Bata to the list of ASF-hit areas, joining Barangays Alijis and Taculing, which were earlier confirmed to have infections.
Earlier, Assistant City Veterinarian Dr. Marie Janine Sarthou reported that five hogs had tested positive for ASF—two each from Barangays Taculing and Alijis, and one detected at the city’s abattoir in Barangay Handumanan.
With the latest laboratory findings, Bacolod City has recorded a total of eight confirmed ASF-positive cases.
The CVO urged hog raisers, particularly those in affected barangays, to strengthen biosecurity measures and immediately report any unusual illness or deaths among their swine.
The office also called on barangay officials, farmers, and other stakeholders to work together to prevent the further spread of the highly contagious animal disease.
Sarthou emphasized that sustained vigilance and strict compliance with established biosecurity protocols remain essential to protect the city’s swine industry, safeguard the livelihoods of local hog raisers, and minimize the impact of ASF on the livestock sector./PN
