Free ‘hilot’ training for 25 inmates

ILOILO City – Twenty-five inmates of the Iloilo City District Jail in Barangay Ungka, Jaro district are availing themselves of free massage training from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

The “hilot wellness massage” training prepares the inmates for lives outside the jail once they have been freed, according to TESDA Region 6 scholarship focal officer Nelyma Rose Capillo.

The training started on April 5. It will last for 33 days.

After completing the training, the inmates would be issued with certificates attesting to their new skills.

“Even while in detention, they can earn through hilot,” said jail warden Superintendent Vicente Papelera.

This skills training is the second by TESDA at the Iloilo City District Jail. The first was on electronics servicing done last year.

On Dec. 6, 2016, TESDA and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology signed a memorandum of agreement on the training.

Other trainings / courses the inmates could avail themselves of are Front Office Services NC2; Customer Service NC2; Barista NC2; HEO Forklift NC2; Automotive Servicing NC1; Food Processing NC3; Motorcycle / Small Engine Services NC2; Bread and Pastry NC2; Nail Care NC2; Massage Therapy NC2; Beauty Care NC2; Housekeeping NC3; Organic Agriculture NC2; Animal Production NC2; and Cookery NC2./PN
