Frustrated homicide raps vs Teng and Torreses’ ‘stabbers’

MANILA – Police in Taguig City formally filed a complaint against the men who allegedly stabbed Alaska Aces rookie Jeron Teng and two companions in an altercation in Bonifacio Global City early Sunday morning.

Frustrated homicide with serious physical injury charges have been lodged against Edmar Manalo and Willard Basili, said Howard Calleja, lawyer of Teng, Rain or Shine Elasto Painters center Norbert Torres and Mandaluyong El Tigre guard Thomas Torres.

“Preliminary investigation proceeds” after the charges were filed at the fiscal’s office, Calleja said Tuesday. “Next hearing will be on June 11.”

While the preliminary investigation is ongoing, the complainants’ camp could still include other respondents “or even increase or add whatever crimes or penalties we deem fit,” said the lawyer.

Senior Superintendent Alexander Santos, Taguig police chief, said the fight started in a bar at BGC where Teng’s group and the group of Manalo and Basili allegedly taunted each other.

“Initially may club silang pinanggalingan. Nagkakatinginan sila, nagkakainisan actually. Kasama noong mga basketball players iyong kanilang mga girlfriends, at iyong kabilang grupo marami-rami din iyon e, five to seven din sila,” Santos said.

“After that, noong lumabas sila, nagkasalubong po sila sa tapat ng Early Nights Bar, so pagdating po doon, nagkantiyawan po,” the police officer added. “Pareho pong nakainom itong grupo, one thing led to another, nagsimula na po silang mag-away.”
