MANILA – Filipino-American Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser is set to lead the 21 rookies that will be unveiled in the 2022 PBA Philippine Cup, which will open on Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Ganuelas-Rosser, the top overall pick in the PBA Season 47 Rookie Draft last month, will spearhead the three newcomers in the Blackwater Bossing’s roster aside from Mark Dyke and Renato Ular.
Brandon, younger brother of TNT Tropang Giga’s Matthew Ganuelas-Rosser, will not be debuting with the Bossing until midway in the conference as he is still recovering from a finger injury.
Terrafirma Dyip, meanwhile, has the most number of rookies rostered at four in Javier Gomez de Liano, Allen Mina, John Grospe and Terrence Tumalip.
Grospe was a selection by the NLEX Road Warriors in 2017 but was only given a chance to play this season, while Tumalip was Terrafirma’s selection last year but played in the team’s 3×3 squad.
Converge FiberXers, which took over the franchise of Alaska Aces, will be having four newbies in Jeo Ambohot, Justin Arana, Tyrus Hill and Kurt Lojera, which was acquired in a trade with the Bossing.
Rain or Shine Elasto Painters also has three rookies in Gian Mamuyac, Shaun Ildefonso and Jhonard Clarito, same with Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters in Encho Serrano, Tyler Tio and Chris Lalata.
NorthPort Batang Pier has two rookies in John Michael Calma and John Apacible, while Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings and TNT Tropang Giga has one each in Jayson David and Frederick Tungcab (picked in 2021), respectively.
Meanwhile, nine PBA veterans will also be suiting up for new teams this season led by James Sena, Rey Publico and Yousef Taha, who were now with the Bossing.
Also donning new jerseys for the upcoming season are San Miguel Beermen’s Michael Cañete and Jeepy Faundo, FiberXers’ David Murrell, Batang Pier’s Louie Vigil, Dyip’s Brian Enriquez and Meralco Bolts’ Kyle Pascual./PN
